  • Understanding Motorcycle Tire Sizes for Touring Bikes: Choosing the Right Size for Long Hauls

Your Tires & Touring When it comes to touring bikes, choosing the right tire size is crucial for ensuring a smooth, safe, and comfortable ride on long journeys. Touring bikes are designed for long-distance travel, often carrying heavy loads, so having the appropriate tires can make a significant difference in performance and handling. In this blog, we'll delve into motorcycle tire sizes for touring bikes and how to select the proper size for your long hauls. The Importance of Tire Size for Touring Bikes Tire size impacts several aspects of your riding experience, including stability, traction, fuel efficiency, and comfort. Using the correct tire size ensures that your bike handles optimally under the varying conditions you'll encounter on long rides. Understanding Tire Size Numbers Motorcycle tire sizes are typically displayed using a series of numbers and letters, such as 180/55ZR17. Here's what each part of the tire size means: Width (180) : The first number indicates the tire's width in millimeters, measured from sidewall to sidewall. Aspect Ratio (55) : The second number is the aspect ratio, representing the height of the tire's sidewall as a percentage of its width. In this example, the sidewall height is 55% of the tire's width. Construction Type (Z) : This letter indicates the construction type. "R" stands for radial, which is common in touring bikes, and "B" stands for bias-ply. Diameter (17) : The last number denotes the diameter of the wheel in inches that the tire is designed to fit. Choosing the Right Tire Size for Touring Bikes When selecting tires for your touring bike, consider the following factors: Manufacturer Recommendations : Always start by checking your bike’s manual for the manufacturer's recommended tire sizes. Manufacturers design bikes with specific tire sizes to optimize performance and safety. Load Capacity : Touring bikes often carry heavy loads, including luggage and sometimes a passenger. Ensure that the tire size you choose can handle the additional weight. Look for load ratings on the tire sidewall. Riding Conditions : Consider the types of roads and weather conditions you’ll encounter. Wider tires offer better stability and grip, which can be beneficial on long hauls with varying road conditions. Comfort and Handling : A proper tire size can enhance comfort and handling, especially on long rides. Tires with a higher aspect ratio generally provide a smoother ride. Popular Tire Sizes for Touring Bikes While the best tire size can vary depending on your specific bike model, some common sizes for touring bikes include: Front Tires : 120/70R17, 130/70R18 Rear Tires : 180/55R17, 190/55R17 These sizes provide a good balance of stability, traction, and comfort, which are essential for long-distance touring. Additional Tips for Long Hauls Regular Maintenance : Check your tire pressure regularly. Properly inflated tires improve fuel efficiency and handling. Tread Depth : Ensure your tires have sufficient tread depth for better grip and safety. Replace tires when the tread is worn down. Balancing and Alignment : Have your tires balanced and aligned correctly to avoid uneven wear and ensure a smooth ride. Spare Tire : Consider carrying a portable tire repair kit or a spare tube in case of emergencies during long trips. Conclusion Choosing the right tire size for your touring bike is essential for a safe and enjoyable long-distance ride. By understanding the tire size numbers and considering factors like load capacity, riding conditions, and manufacturer recommendations, you can select the best tires for your needs. Proper tire maintenance and care will further enhance your touring experience, ensuring that you and your bike are ready for the open road. Happy touring!

  • Finding The Perfect Bars For Your Bike

Finding the Perfect Handlebar Size for Your Motorcycle: Maximizing Comfort and Performance When it comes to motorcycle performance and rider comfort, handlebar size plays a crucial role. We had a chance to speak to a bunch of riders from Legendary USA , where we got some interesting opinions and were able to come up with some conclusions. The right handlebar can significantly enhance your riding experience, whether you're navigating twisty mountain roads, cruising on the highway, or tackling off-road trails. In this blog, we'll explore different handlebar options and how they can affect your riding style and comfort. Types of Handlebars Drag Bars Best for:  Street Bikes, Cruisers Characteristics:  Drag bars are low and straight, offering an aggressive riding position. They provide minimal rise and sweep, which can enhance handling and control at higher speeds. Performance Impact:  Drag bars are ideal for riders who prioritize speed and agility, making them a favorite for street racers and custom cruisers. Ape Hangers Best for:  Cruisers, Choppers Characteristics:  Known for their tall height, ape hangers can rise significantly above the level of the gas tank, providing a relaxed arm position. Performance Impact:  While they may not be the most practical for high-speed riding, ape hangers offer a comfortable, laid-back riding position that is perfect for long-distance cruising. Clip-On Handlebars Best for:  Sport Bikes, Track Racing Characteristics:  Clip-ons attach directly to the front forks, placing the rider in a low, aerodynamic position. They offer limited adjustability but provide precise control. Performance Impact:  Ideal for track and sport riders, clip-ons enhance cornering and aerodynamics, allowing for better performance at high speeds. Z-Bars Best for:  Bobbers, Custom Builds Characteristics:  Z-bars feature a distinctive zig-zag shape, providing a unique look and moderate rise and pullback. Performance Impact:  Z-bars strike a balance between style and functionality, offering decent comfort and control for casual riders and custom bike enthusiasts. T-Bars Best for:  Cruisers, Touring Bikes Characteristics:  T-bars combine the rise of ape hangers with the straight, wide grip of drag bars, offering a blend of comfort and control. Performance Impact:  T-bars are versatile, providing a comfortable riding position for long-distance touring while maintaining good control for city riding. Clubman Handlebars Best for:  Café Racers, Vintage Bikes Characteristics:  Clubman bars angle downwards and towards the rider, creating a forward-leaning, aggressive posture similar to clip-ons. Performance Impact:  These bars enhance handling and aerodynamics, making them suitable for vintage sport riding and café racer builds. Choosing the Right Handlebar Size When selecting handlebars, consider the following factors: Riding Style: For aggressive, high-speed riding, opt for drag bars or clip-ons. For relaxed, long-distance cruising, consider ape hangers or T-bars. Comfort: Ensure the handlebars provide a natural reach for your arms and shoulders. Avoid excessive rise or sweep that might strain your back or wrists over time. Bike Type: Match the handlebars to your motorcycle’s design and ergonomics. Custom and bobber builds allow for more creative handlebar choices. Control and Handling: Higher bars like ape hangers may reduce precision in tight corners. Lower, straighter bars like drag bars and clip-ons offer better control at high speeds. Conclusion Choosing the right handlebar size is essential for optimizing your motorcycle's performance and ensuring rider comfort. Whether you prioritize speed, long-distance comfort, or a unique custom look, there's a handlebar style to match your needs. Experimenting with different options can help you find the perfect fit, transforming your riding experience and enhancing your connection with your bike.Happy riding, and may you find the handlebars that make every journey a joy! #MotorcycleCommunity #LegendaryUSA #RideTogether #BikerLife #MotorcycleAdventure #BikerFamily #RideOrDie #MotorcycleLove #TwoWheelsLife #BikerMeetup #MotorcycleClubs #BikerEvents #RideWithFriends #BikeLifeCulture #MotorcycleRiders #BikerBrotherhood #CruiserLife #SportbikeRiders #HarleyDavidson #CustomMotorcycles #BikeNight #RideOut #MotorcyclePassion #AdventureRiders #BikeEnthusiast #MotorcycleFun

  • How to Fix a Snap on Your Motorcycle Jacket or Vest

If you're like me, well you know snaps don't last forever, but they are very easy to fix so no need to get stressed out. Snaps on motorcycle jackets and vests are essential for secure closures, easy access, and maintaining the overall functionality and style of your gear. However, over time, these snaps can wear out, break, or become loose. Instead of retiring your favorite piece of gear, you can easily fix a broken snap yourself. This DIY guide will walk you through the steps to repair or replace a snap on your motorcycle jacket or vest. Materials Needed Replacement snaps (available at most craft or hardware stores) Snap fastener tool kit (includes tools for setting snaps) Hammer Screwdriver or snap removal tool Pliers Awl (or a small, sharp tool for making holes) Fabric marker or chalk Cutting board or sturdy surface for hammering Soft cloth Shop American Made Motorcycle Gear & Apparel At Legendary USA Step-by-Step Instructions 1. Preparation Safety First: Ensure you’re working in a well-lit area with a sturdy surface. Gather all your tools and materials before you start. Identify the Problem: Examine the broken snap to determine if it needs to be replaced entirely or if it can be repaired. Sometimes, the snap may just be loose and can be tightened, while other times it will need complete replacement. 2. Remove the Broken Snap Protect the Fabric: Place a soft cloth under the area you’ll be working on to protect the leather or fabric from damage. Pry Off the Old Snap: Use a screwdriver or a snap removal tool to carefully pry off the broken snap. If the snap is particularly stubborn, you can use pliers to help pull it off. Be gentle to avoid tearing the fabric. 3. Prepare for the New Snap Check the Hole: Once the old snap is removed, inspect the hole where the snap was. If the hole is damaged or too small for the new snap, use an awl to carefully enlarge or tidy up the hole. Ensure the hole is just big enough for the snap to fit snugly. Mark the Placement: Use a fabric marker or chalk to mark the exact spot where the new snap will be placed. This ensures precise alignment and a professional finish. Shop American Made Motorcycle Gear & Apparel At Legendary USA 4. Attach the New Snap Set Up the Snap: Most snap fastener kits include a cap (top part) and a socket (bottom part). Place the cap through the hole on the outer side of the fabric and align the socket on the inside. Use the Snap Fastener Tool: Place the anvil (part of the snap fastener tool kit) under the snap. Position the cap and socket over the anvil. Place the setter tool (another part of the kit) on top of the cap. Secure the Snap: With the cap and socket aligned and the tools in place, use a hammer to gently tap the setter tool. Start with light taps to ensure everything is aligned, then increase the force slightly to secure the snap. Be careful not to hit too hard, as this can damage the snap or the fabric. 5. Test the Snap Check Functionality: Once the snap is secured, test it to ensure it opens and closes smoothly. The snap should fit tightly without being too difficult to open. Make Adjustments: If the snap feels loose, you can gently tighten it by tapping around the edges with the hammer. If it’s too tight, carefully loosen it with a few gentle tugs using pliers. Shop American Made Motorcycle Gear & Apparel At Legendary USA 6. Final Touches Clean Up: Wipe down the area with a soft cloth to remove any marks or debris from the repair process. Inspect Your Work: Ensure the new snap is securely in place and looks good as new. Double-check for any signs of damage or misalignment. Shop American Made Motorcycle Gear & Apparel At Legendary USA Conclusion Fixing a snap on your motorcycle jacket or vest is a straightforward process that can save you time and money while extending the life of your gear. With the right tools and a bit of patience, you can tackle this DIY project and get back on the road with a fully functional and stylish piece of motorcycle apparel. So next time a snap breaks or becomes loose, follow this guide and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.

  • DIY Guide: Sanding Down and Custom Painting Your Old Motorcycle Helmet

I was hanging in the Legendary USA HQ the other day in Brick, NJ when a rider came in with a sick helmet. The paint job was almost looked like a carbon fiber gold & black with intricate sprayed patterns. I inquired about it and he said he did it himself. This led to a lot of questions and here's what I've come to figure out if anyone wants to customize their helmets paint job. If you have an old motorcycle helmet that's seen better days, don't toss it out just yet. With a bit of creativity and elbow grease, you can transform it into a custom piece that reflects your personal style. This DIY guide will walk you through the steps of sanding down and custom painting your helmet, giving it a new lease on life. Materials Needed: Old motorcycle helmet Screwdriver (for removing any detachable parts) Sandpaper (220-grit and 400-grit) Masking tape Plastic drop cloth or newspaper (for covering your work area) Spray primer (suitable for plastic or fiberglass) Spray paint (in your desired colors) Clear coat spray (for protection and shine) Painter’s tape Gloves Safety glasses Respirator mask (for safety during sanding and painting) Soft cloth Mild soap and water Shop Legendary USA For Made in USA Motorcycle Gear & Apparel Step-by-Step Instructions: 1. Preparation Safety First: Before you begin, ensure you're working in a well-ventilated area. Wear safety glasses, gloves, and a respirator mask to protect yourself from dust and fumes. Clean the Helmet: Remove any dirt, grease, or stickers from the helmet. Use mild soap and water to clean the surface thoroughly. Dry the helmet with a soft cloth. Disassemble the Helmet: If your helmet has any detachable parts like visors, straps, or padding, remove them using a screwdriver. This will make the sanding and painting process easier and more efficient. 2. Sanding the Helmet Start with 220-Grit Sandpaper: Begin sanding the entire surface of the helmet using 220-grit sandpaper. This will remove the existing paint and create a smooth surface for the new paint to adhere to. Sand until the surface feels smooth and even. Switch to 400-Grit Sandpaper: After the initial sanding, switch to 400-grit sandpaper for a finer finish. This will help eliminate any remaining rough spots and prepare the surface for priming. Clean the Helmet Again: Wipe down the helmet with a damp cloth to remove any sanding dust. Allow it to dry completely before moving on to the next step. Shop Legendary USA For Made in USA Motorcycle Gear & Apparel 3. Priming the Helmet Mask Off Areas: Use masking tape and plastic drop cloth or newspaper to cover any areas you don't want to paint, such as the inside of the helmet or any logos you wish to preserve. Apply Primer: Shake the spray primer can well and apply a light, even coat to the helmet. Hold the can about 6-8 inches away from the surface. Allow the primer to dry according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Apply a second coat if necessary for full coverage. 4. Painting the Helmet Base Coat: Choose your base color and spray a light, even coat over the entire helmet. Hold the can 6-8 inches away and use smooth, sweeping motions. Allow the paint to dry completely before applying additional coats. Repeat this process until you achieve your desired color intensity. Design and Detail: Once the base coat is dry, use painter’s tape to create designs or patterns on the helmet. You can use additional colors to add stripes, shapes, or other custom designs. Apply the paint in thin, even layers, allowing each coat to dry fully before adding the next. Shop Legendary USA For Made in USA Motorcycle Gear & Apparel 5. Finishing Touches Clear Coat: After you’re satisfied with the paint job and it’s completely dry, apply a clear coat to protect the paint and give the helmet a glossy finish. Spray a light, even layer of clear coat, holding the can about 6-8 inches away. Allow it to dry completely and apply a second coat for added protection. Reassemble the Helmet: Once the clear coat is fully dry, remove the masking tape and reattach any parts you previously removed. Ensure everything is securely in place. 6. Final Inspection Check Your Work: Inspect the helmet for any missed spots or imperfections. Touch up as needed and allow any additional paint to dry completely. Enjoy Your Custom Helmet: Your newly painted helmet is now ready to hit the road! Enjoy your unique piece of art and ride with pride. Shop Legendary USA For Made in USA Motorcycle Gear & Apparel Tips and Tricks: Test Your Paint:  Before starting on your helmet, test your paint colors and techniques on a small, inconspicuous area or a scrap piece of material. Thin Layers:  Apply paint in thin layers to avoid drips and ensure a smooth finish. Patience is Key:  Allow ample drying time between coats of primer, paint, and clear coat for the best results. With these steps, you can give your old motorcycle helmet a fresh, personalized look. Not only will you have a helmet that stands out, but you'll also have the satisfaction of knowing you created it yourself. • Riding To Sturgis from JERSEY!

Journey to Sturgis: The Wild Ride from New Jersey on a Harley Street Glide There’s a special kind of freedom found on the open road, and for Jake and Laura, it was time to chase it from New Jersey to Sturgis on their Harley Street Glide. The journey promised adventure, but little did they know just how wild the ride would get. Chris the owner of Legendary USA warned them to expect the unknown! Day 1: The Departure Jake and Laura waved goodbye to the familiar Jersey skyline as they roared onto the highway, after stopping at their favorite motorcycle gear shop Legendary USA in Brick, NJ . They are close with the owner who advised them and helped them plan their trip. After getting a new pair of American Deerskin gloves , they hopped on their bike. The sun just peeking over the horizon. The first day was smooth, the miles melting away beneath the hum of the Street Glide. They stopped at a quirky diner in Pennsylvania, where the owner, a bearded biker named Gus, regaled them with tales of his own Sturgis adventures. Little did they know, this was just a taste of the eccentric encounters to come. Day 2: The Haunted Motel Crossing into Ohio, the couple decided to rest for the night at a seemingly quaint roadside motel. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the motel took on an eerie glow. The owner, an elderly woman with piercing blue eyes, handed them a key with a warning: “Stay away from Room 13.” Naturally, curiosity got the better of Jake. In the middle of the night, they heard strange noises. Jake, ever the adventurer, decided to investigate Room 13. The door creaked open to reveal... nothing but a cat, staring at him with glowing eyes. Laura couldn’t stop laughing at Jake’s wide-eyed retreat. “I told you so,” she chuckled. Shop American Made Motorcycle Gear - Legendary USA Day 3: The Bison Blockade The next day brought them into the vast plains of South Dakota. As they cruised along a lonely stretch of road, they found themselves face-to-face with a herd of bison. The massive creatures sauntered across the road, completely unbothered by the rumbling Harley. Jake and Laura sat in awe, snapping pictures and videos, feeling the pulse of the wild. Day 4: The Storm of the Century Riding through the Midwest, the weather can change in the blink of an eye. They were greeted by ominous clouds and a sudden downpour that turned the highway into a treacherous river. With visibility near zero, they pulled over under an overpass, huddling together against the wind. As thunder rumbled and lightning split the sky, they shared stories and laughter, their bond growing stronger with each passing storm. Expecting trouble, they were instead welcomed into a roadside bar, where they were treated like long-lost family. The bikers, all Sturgis veterans, shared their secrets for surviving the rally. They even performed a “biker’s blessing,” a hilarious but heartfelt ceremony involving beer, barbecue, and a lot of laughter. Shop American Made Motorcycle Gear - Legendary USA Day 6: The Arrival Finally, they roared into Sturgis, greeted by the deafening thunder of thousands of bikes and the sight of fellow riders reveling in the freedom of the open road. The journey had been filled with unexpected twists, eerie encounters, and heartwarming moments. As they parked their Street Glide and looked around, Jake and Laura knew that this adventure was just the beginning. Their wild ride to Sturgis wasn’t just about the destination; it was about the crazy, unforgettable experiences along the way. From haunted motels and bison blockades to biker blessings, every mile had brought them closer together and deeper into the heart of the biker community. With the roar of Sturgis in their ears, they couldn’t wait to see what other adventures awaited them on the road ahead. #MotorcycleCommunity #LegendaryUSA #RideTogether #BikerLife #MotorcycleAdventure #BikerFamily #RideOrDie #MotorcycleLove #TwoWheelsLife #BikerMeetup #MotorcycleClubs #BikerEvents #RideWithFriends #BikeLifeCulture #MotorcycleRiders #BikerBrotherhood #CruiserLife #SportbikeRiders #HarleyDavidson #CustomMotorcycles #BikeNight #RideOut #MotorcyclePassion #AdventureRiders #BikeEnthusiast #MotorcycleFun
